CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern guard Christian Keeling has been named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Keeling averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game to help CSU defeat Abilene Christian and Toccoa Falls.
Keeling tallied a season-high 20 points in CSU's 66-65 comeback win at Abilene Christian on Tuesday. He scored 15 points after halftime as the Bucs erased a 17-point deficit over the final 12:33 of the game. Keeling finished 8-of-11 from the floor and added seven rebounds. In Saturday's victory over Toccoa Falls, Keeling filled out the stat sheet with ten points, seven rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes of play.
Keeling is CSU's leading scorer and ranks among league leaders in field goal percentage (57.1% - 2nd), rebounding (6.6 RPG – 5th) and scoring (16.0 PPG – 7th) through five games.
Winthrop senior guard Keon Johnson and Campbell sophomore guard Chris Clemons were named the Big South Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week.
CSU travels to Alabama on Tuesday. Tipoff at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
