Davidson Walks Off in Midweek Win over CSU

Davidson, N.C. - With the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Alec Acosta singled to deep right field to allow the winning run to score for Davidson (28-15) as they walked off on Charleston Southern (13-30) 4-3 on Wednesday night.

After the leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, the next two Davidson batters were walked to load the bases with no outs. Acosta worked the count full before he hit his game winning single.

The Wildcats took the first lead of the game back in the fifth inning. A two out single with the bases loaded put Davidson up 1-0. Charleston Southern responded in the seventh with two runs to take the lead. Josh Peters singled up the middle to score one followed by a squeeze bunt from Kyle Vesnesky that put the Bucs out in front 2-1.

Davidson retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh. The first run came on a sacrifice bunt that was misplayed for an error and the second scored on a sacrifice fly. In the eighth, a wild pitch allowed Christian Maggio to score and tie the game.

Austin Leonard (2-1) got the win for Davidson. He worked two innings with one run on two hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Ryan Stoudemire (1-6) took the loss for CSU, pitching no innings and allowing one run on three hits.
