Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston Southern baseball team will return to the diamond Tuesday as the Bucs officially kick off fall practices at CSU Ballpark.
Practices continue through Thursday with scrimmages set to begin this weekend. The first scrimmages of the fall season will take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All scrimmages are free and open to the public.
Head Coach Adam Ward will begin his first full year as CSU's head baseball coach. He began last season as interim head coach before being named the head coach in May.
"I am very excited about the start of fall practice," said Ward. "We have had a productive month of individual skill instruction and our newcomers have shown a lot of potential up to this point. I am looking forward to watching our entire group compete and use what they've learned in a team setting."
Under Ward's direction, CSU boasted one of the nation's top pitching staffs in 2017. The Bucs tallied 23 double-digit strikeout games as a pitching staff last season and finished the year ranked 7th nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 13th in strikeouts per nine innings.
