CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern's Bobby Ison has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while Campbell's Heath Bowers was tabbed The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played April 7-14, the League announced today.
Ison, a junior from Goose Creek, S.C., batted .636 with seven hits and six RBI to lead Charleston Southern to a 2-1 series win over Gardner-Webb last week. The Big South Preseason Player of the Year posted multiple hits in all three games, including three hits in the series-opening win over the Runnin' Bulldogs on April 11. He posted four RBI, to go along with a pair of home runs in the second game of the series. He finished the series with a pair of hits and two runs scored in the series clinching game. He finished the three-game span going 7-of-11 at the plate with a double and six runs-scored. The honor marks his first Big South Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Bowers, a junior from Lillington, N.C., struck out a career-best 13 UNC Asheville hitters as Campbell picked up the 7-1 win over the Bulldogs on April 11. His strikeout total was just one shy of the Campbell school record as he pitched 8.0 innings. Bowers scattered just four hits in his outing to pick up his sixth win of the season. For his efforts, he was named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week. The honor is his first Big South Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
