STATESBORO, GA. – Charleston Southern dropped their final road nonconference game of the year on Tuesday evening by a final score of 18-4 at Georgia Southern.
Charleston Southern scored in the top of the first off a
Garrison Barile RBI groundout. After this, Georgia Southern went on to score four in the bottom of the first as they tallied 11 unanswered. They also had two in the third and five in the fourth to go ahead 11-1.
The Buccaneers went on to get three runs in the top of the sixth to bring the score back within single digits. Barile had a sacrifice fly while
Alex Marot and
Chandler Tuupo both had RBI singles in the frame. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles put up a seven spot to push the game back into run rule territory at 18-4. The Bucs did not score any in the top of the seventh, ending the game.
As a team, Charleston Southern finished with four hits with Barile leading them at the plate with two RBIs. On the mound, they used five pitchers with
Tristan Stephenson being the lone one to not allow a run during his time on the mound as he threw a scoreless sixth.
The Buccaneers will now enjoy a week off from games for the student-athletes to take their final exams. They will return with a home game against the College of Charleston on Tuesday, May 5 at 6 p.m. After this they will hit the road to face Longwood from May 8-10 before returning home to take on Radford from May 14-16. The top six teams in the league standings will make the Big South Championships which will be held in Asheville, N.C. from May 20-23.
