CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston Southern softball team took on Winthrop Friday afternoon, falling 7-5 in a back-and-forth contest.

In the first, Jordyn Dimond reached on a hit-by-pitch but she was left stranded.

Winthrop strikes first in the top of the third, taking a 3-0 advantage.

Dimond singled in the bottom of the third followed by a single from Blakley Kingsmore. Harper Schoeneweis doubled to right field bringing Dimond and Kingsmore in to score. Carsten Sandvig singled to center field, allowing Schoeneweis to score to even the game 3-3. Maddie Lee followed with a single, but both Sandvig and Lee were left on base.

The Eagles extended their lead again in the top of the fourth, leaving the inning 4-3.

In the fifth, Dimond doubled down the left field line followed by another double from Schoeneweis to bring Dimond in to score, tying the game 4-4. Carsten Sandvig singled, and then advanced to second on the throw that brought Schoeneweis in to give the Bucs a 5-4 advantage. 

Winthrop answered, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 advantage.

The Bucs threatened in the bottom of the inning, as Dimond drew a walk and Kingsmore singled. Schoeneweis reached on a fielder's choice, advancing to second while Kingsmore moved to third, but Charleston Southern was unable to push a run across.

Riley Lauffer started in the circle for the Bucs with 2.1 innings of work, allowing three runs. Brenna Conley threw three innings. Kinsey Clopton had 1.2 innings of work, allowing one run with two strikeouts.

UP NEXT
The Buccaneers return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Eagles. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m., with game two to follow at approximately 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
