Bucs Bash Brown for 24 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep

A six-run outburst over the first two innings of Game 1 set the tone for the day as the Bucs powered past Brown, 13-6, before completing the sweep with an 11-1 run-rule victory in Game 2.

Game 1

Six runs in the first two innings helped the Bucs take down Brown, 13-6. Chandler Tuupo singled in a run and was followed by a two-RBI double from Alex Marot. A sacrifice fly from Lucas Pringle scored Tuupo and gave CSU an early 3-1 lead. In the second frame, Garrison Barile doubled down the third-base line to score Nathan Martinez before Tuupo singled home two and expanded the Bucs' lead to five.

Tuupo and Marot continued their onslaught with RBI doubles in the middle innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Blake Edgmon dropped a perfect sacrifice bunt and the pitcher overthrew first base, allowing Kain Collins to score from second. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Pringle walked in a run, and back-to-back singles from Gavin Spiers and Nathan Martinez brought home two more.

Tuupo finished with four hits and a walk, driving in four RBIs in six trips to the plate. Martinez and Alex Marot also collected multiple hits in the win.

Titus Von Kapff (1-0) earned the win after throwing five innings for the Bucs with three strikeouts. He turned it over to Tyler Henshaw, who spun 3.2 innings, striking out four.

Peter Dubie (0-1) took the loss for Brown after allowing seven runs in four innings.

Game 2

The Bucs plated four runs in the eighth inning to complete an 11-1 run-rule victory over Brown. A pinch-hit home run from John Emendorfer pushed the Bucs' lead to 9-1. Mason Reising, another pinch hitter, singled ahead of walks from Nathan Martinez and Tyler Wright to load the bases. Ethan Reader hustled to turn a grounder to short into an RBI single before Blake Edgmon was plunked to end the game.

Brady Bickett (2-0) spun five innings of no-hit ball on the mound for the Bucs, striking out four. He allowed his first hit in the sixth inning and handed the ball to Jack Bunnell, who picked up the save with three innings of work, allowing one run on just three hits.

Edgmon led the Bucs with three hits and four RBIs while scoring a run himself. Wright and Reader also had multi-hit efforts.

The game was deadlocked until the fifth inning when a single from Edgmon put the Bucs out in front. With Edgmon at first and Reader at third, the duo executed a successful double steal to plate the Bucs' second run. A single from Garrison Barile later scored Edgmon to give the Bucs a 3-0 advantage.

After Barile's bases-loaded walk in the sixth scored a run, CSU added three more in the seventh on RBI singles from Reader and Edgmon.

Drew Nelson (0-1) took the loss for Brown after surrendering three runs in four innings on the mound.
