ORLANDO, FLA - The Charleston Southern softball team wrapped up play at the SpaceU Classic on Sunday, falling 7-0 to the Penn State Nittany Lions and 5-1 to the UCF Knights. Each of the programs entered the week receiving votes in multiple national polls for the top 25 rankings.
GAME ONE
Penn State tallied their first of the day in the second inning and went on to score four in the fourth and another two in the fifth to claim the 7-0 victory.
Charleston Southern recorded the first hit of the game for either team with a single to right field by
Emily Chandler in the top of the second.
Kinsey Clopton got the start in the circle for the Bucs, throwing one inning allowing one run and no hits.
Brenna Conley came in to throw five innings with two strike outs and allowed just two earned runs to the Power 4 opponent.
GAME TWO
The Bucs struck first in the first inning.
Blakley Kingsmore reached on a single and advanced to third before
Charlee Yourman drove her in with a single to right field, giving the Bucs an early 1-0 lead.
Kingsmore collected her second hit of the day in the third inning but was left stranded. In the fifth inning,
Linley Jones singled to left field and moved into scoring position but was unable to score.
In the sixth,
Jordyn Dimond singled to first base followed by a single to right field from
Emma Smith.
Maddie Lee walked, loading the bases for the Bucs, but all three were left stranded.
The hosts did not let CSU lead for long as they scored two in the bottom of the first to be ahead for the first time in the afternoon. They tallied one in the third and another two in the fifth to push the final score to 5-1.
Riley Lauffer threw all six innings for the Bucs, allowing six hits.

Charleston Southern will be back at home on Wednesday, February 25 at 5:00 PM to host Georgia State at the CSU Softball Complex.
