STATESBORO, GA - The Charleston Southern softball team traveled to Statesboro, GA on Wednesday, falling to the Georgia Southern Eagles by a 6-0 and 8-2 score.
Game One
Brenna Conley started for the Buccaneers and went the first 3.0 innings allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out three. She fell to 2-1 on the season, as the Eagles (18-12, 2-1 in SBC) shut out the Buccaneers (10-15) and held them to five hits.
Georgia Southern scratched across five runs in the fourth inning off of
Mackenzie Rutkoff, sending eight batters to the plate. Rutkoff threw the final 3.0 innings for the Buccaneers allowing five runs on seven hits.
Game Two
The Eagles got it going early in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring five runs in the first inning off of two hits. They added three more in the bottom of the second inning, including a two-run home run to push their lead to 8-0.Â
After allowing eight runs in her first 2.0 innings,
Riley Lauffer did not allow a run in her final 3.0 innings pitched. She walked four batters and struck out one batter.
Kinsey Clopton pitched a scoreless sixth inning with one strikeout.Â
On Deck
The Buccaneers return home this weekend for their conference opener, as they host the Presbyterian Blue Hose at CSU Softball Field beginning on Friday at 5:00 PM. Friday's game will be followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM.Â
