Buccaneers Shoot a Season-Best from the Field; Defeat Presbyterian to Get Back in Win Column

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Catherine Alben goes for 25 points on Wednesday night, as the Charleston Southern women's basketball team got back to their winning ways and completed the season sweep of the Presbyterian Blue Hose with a 79-65 win in the Buc Dome.

Alben went 10/14 from the field and was 4/6 from beyond the arc, as the Buccaneers (11-14, 7-5 in conference) shot a season-best 54.4% from the field as a team. They were 10/20 from beyond the arc, which was also a season best.

Charleston Southern began the game on a tear, racing out to an 11-0 lead through the first three minutes capped off by a three pointer from Calean Ellis. The Buccaneers scored on three-straight possessions midway through the opening quarter, including two-three pointers from Shimei Muhammad to push the lead to 22-6. Muhammad had 10 points and was 2/3 from beyond the arc in 22 minutes.

Presbyterian (5-19, 3-8 in Big South) were able to claw their way back into the game in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to four points with 2:11 left in the first half, which is where the lead stayed heading into the locker room.

The Buccaneers caught fire again in the third quarter, as they pushed the lead back up to 15 points with a mid-range jumper from Saniya Jones with 3:29 left in the third quarter. Charleston Southern did not allow the Blue Hose deficit to get under 12 points in the fourth quarter, as they shot 16/26 in the second half overall and 5-7 from beyond the arc.

Ellis and Muhammad each had two three pointers on the evening, and Alaina Nettles finished the game with nine points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Keshunti Nichols added 10 points on 6/11 shooting.

Despite being outrebounded in the game, the Buccaneers finished with 38 points in the paint and forced 13 Blue Hose turnovers. Charleston Southern had nine steals, including three from both Taylor Caldwell and Alaina Nettles

The Buccaneers are back on the road this weekend, as they have a rematch against UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2:00 PM. They will look to complete the season sweep of the Bulldogs.
