Catherine Alben reached a new career high in points with 29 on Saturday, but that was not enough, as the Charleston Southern women's basketball team dropped a 74-60 decision to the Radford Highlanders at the Dedmon Center.
The Buccaneers (6-12, 2-3 in conference) made a valiant comeback effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Highlanders (6-12, 3-2 in conference) 29-9 in the final 10 minutes.
Prior to that, the Highlanders had control from the beginning, jumping out to an 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter. The Buccaneers were able to trim the deficit to 13-12 with 3:48 left in the opening quarter, but the Highlanders finished the first quarter on a 12-2 run to take a double-digit lead.
The Highlanders kept the momentum in the second and third quarters, as they took a 17-point lead at the break and outscored the Buccaneers 26-11 in the third quarter. Their lead in the third quarter extended to as much as 37 points, when the Highlanders made a layup to make it 63-26 with 2:11 to go.
Charleston Southern was just 1/19 from beyond the arc on Saturday, while Radford was 10-27 from the three-point line, including 5/8 in the first quarter. Charleston Southern had a -10-rebounding margin, with
Madison Adamson pulling down seven of the team's 28 rebounds.
