Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team got back in the win column on Wednesday night, as they defeated the Winthrop Eagles in convincing fashion with a 78-50 win inside the Buc Dome.Â
Charleston Southern (6-11, 2-2 in conference) was led by
Madison Adamson, who notched a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Adamson's 11 assists were a career high and the most for a Buccaneer in one game since Joy Taylor in 1998.Â
Catherine Alben was the Buccaneers' leading scorer, finishing with 20 points. She also had three assists, a block and a team-high four steals.
Keshunti Nichols finished with 10 points for Charleston Southern.Â
The Buccaneers took control from the beginning, jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes. The Eagles (9-9, 3-2 in conference) did not make their first basket until the 6:07 mark of the opening quarter. The Buccaneers proceeded to go on a run and pushed the lead to as many as 15 points.
Winthrop cut the Buccaneer lead to seven points midway through the second quarter, but a three-point basket by
Shimei Muhammad pushed the Buccaneer lead back up to 10 with 6:50 left in the second quarter. After a three-point basket by
Tyonna Bailey with 1:56 to go in the first half, the Charleston Southern lead did not dip under 12 points.
In the second half, the Buccaneers extended their lead to 20 points with 3:42 left in the game, when Alben knocked down a jump shot. Alben had two of her steals in the final four minutes, which both led to points.Â
Charleston Southern forced 20 turnovers, which led to 26 points the other way. They dominated in the paint with 38 points and had a season-high 19 offensive rebounds leading to 19 second-chance points.Â
