BURLINGTON, N.C. – Charleston Southern claimed their first team title of the season this week at the Elon Invitational fighting through rainy conditions during the whole competition. The final pairing got through 13 holes in the third round before a lightning strike put them in a weather delay and led to the event being washed out.
They competed at the Alamance Country Club in Burlington, North Carolina. It was a par of 71with a total yardage of 6,065. The teams had their practice round on Sunday, and played 36 holes on Monday which lasted the full day.
Katie Stephens had the top performance of the Buccaneers at the event as she finished as the individual runner-up for the second time this year in as many years. She fired a -1 in the first and followed it with a +1 in the afternoon.
Odette Font was the next highest finishing Buccaneer during the week as she was +5 which included an even 71 in the first round.
Eugenie Varet was next with +7 as she also carded an even 71 herself as well.
Isabella Galla had a great tournament in her second event with Charleston Southern after transferring in from Coastal Carolina. She shot a 73 in the first round and an 80 in the second round with her scores being used in the team scores for each round.
Chayse Cool was the other CSU student-athlete at the event and had her best round of the tournament on the final day before it was washed out with her having just two holes left to play.
