NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team came from behind on Monday evening, beating the Northern Kentucky Norse 2-1 in eight innings and stealing both the game and the series.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Bucs (8-10) loaded the bases, and
Weslin Jones brought in
Gracie Prince with a walk-off single to steal the game. Charleston Southern was down 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, and
Linley Jones tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left field. With runners at second and third base and two outs, the Bucs were unable to capitalize, sending the game into extra innings.
It was a pitcher's duel through 4.0 innings until the Norse (5-8) got on the board first with an RBI single off of
Blake Holtorf, who went 5.0 innings allowing four hits, four walks and striking out two batters.
Nealy Lamb picked up the win for Charleston Southern to improve to 3-2 on the season. She was perfect in her 3.0 innings of work, retiring all nine batters, four of which came via the strikeout.
On Deck
The Bucs will play in their final non-conference tournament of the season this weekend, as they head to Greensboro, N.C. to play in the UNC Greensboro Tournament starting this Saturday at 10 AM.
They will take on UMass, Merrimack, UMBC and UNC Greensboro this weekend in that order. The first three games will be streamed on FLO Sports, while the final game against UNC Greensboro will be on ESPN+.
