Junge Breaks School Record for Strikeouts; Bucs Fall to Terriers in Extra Innings

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – In the second at bat of the game, Annah Junge put herself at the top of the record books on Friday, as she recorded her 440th career strikeout to pass Jennifer Giles for most punch outs in school history. Unfortunately for the Charleston Southern softball team, it was not enough, as they dropped their second-straight nine-inning affair to the Wofford Terriers by a 4-3 score.

Junge pitched 4.0+ innings of shutout softball but did not record a decision despite coming out of the game with a 1-0 lead. The Bucs (11-12) scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single from Carsten Sandvig that scored Weslin Jones.

Junge allowed a walk and a single to begin the top of the fifth inning before being replaced by Nealy Lamb who recorded three quick outs to get out of the jam. Charleston Southern loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning but were unable to capitalize.

Wofford (10-7) tied the game in the top of the sixth inning with a trio of singles off of Lamb. Charleston Southern tried to respond in the bottom half of the inning, as Sandvig led the inning off with her team-leading fourth triple of the season; however, the Bucs were unable to muster up a run.

In the eighth inning, both teams scored their ghost runners from second base, and the Terriers broke through with two runs in the ninth inning off of Riley Lauffer. Both of those runs were unearned, as the Bucs had a few miscues in the field.

Lamb followed Junge's seven-strikeout performance with one strikeout, two runs (one earned) on three hits in 4.0 innings of work. Lauffer suffered the defeat for the Bucs falling to 1-3 on the season. She allowed two unearned runs on two hits in 1.0 inning of work.

Charleston Southern left nine runners on base on Friday night. Sandvig was 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI, while Madelyne Lee went 2 for 5.
