CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four Buccaneers scored in double figures on Monday night, as the Charleston Southern women's basketball team fought off the Charlotte 49ers for a 63-59 victory and the first win of the 2024-25 season.<br />

The Buccaneers (1-4) outscored the 49ers (2-3) 22-14 in the fourth quarter, as they had to play from behind for most of the game. Charleston Southern was able to keep the deficit to within three points for most of the fourth quarter, until
Madison Adamson broke through with her team down 55-54 with 2:20 left to go. Adamson got the rebound and got the foul call on the putback to give Charleston Southern the lead.<br />

Down by one with 56 seconds left in the game,
Alaina Nettles hit the first free throw to tie the game. After missing the second free throw,
Saniya Jones picked up the offensive rebound and laid it in for two, giving the Bucs a 61-59 lead with 53 seconds left.<br />

After the Bucs got a defensive stop, it took two free throws from Nettles with under 20 seconds left in the game to seal the deal for Charleston Southern.<br />

It was a back-and-forth battle throughout the game, as the contest saw 12 lead changes throughout. Neither team led by more than five points, as Charleston Southern took a 23-18 lead with just under four minutes left in the first half.<br />

Alben was the leading scorer for Charleston Southern with 15 points. It was the fourth time in the team's first five games that she has led the team in scoring. Adamson added 13 points and was 4/5 from the free throw line. Jones and
Tyonna Bailey both had 10 points for the Bucs, and Jones and Adamson led the team with seven rebounds.<br />

The 49ers won the rebounding battle 46-44; however, it was the Buccaneers that had more second-chance points with 17. Charleston Southern was 14/19 from the charity strike tonight.<br />

This was the Buccaneers' first ever victory against the 49ers, as they were 0-7 coming into tonight's contest. It was also the team's first victory over a group of five opponent since 2016, when Charleston Southern defeated Georgia Southern.<br />

The Buccaneers will get back on the road this week, as they travel to Macon, GA for a battle with the Mercer Bears on Friday night. Tip-off is at 7 PM and will be streamed on ESPN+. This will be a rematch from last season, when the Bucs beat the Bears inside the Buc Dome by a 66-53 score.<br />
