NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women's basketball team got back in the win column on Wednesday night, as they won handedly over the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs by a final score of 83-61 inside The Buc Dome.
Two players on Charleston Southern (5-11, 2-1 in conference) scored 20+ points on the night, as
Kennedi Jackson set a career-high with 27 points, and
Catherine Alben scored 23 points. On the boards,
Madison Adamson set a career high with 17 rebounds. She also led the Bucs with four steals on the defensive end.
Maya Robinson tied a career-high with 11 points off the bench.
Charleston Southern pulled down 43 boards including 14 on the offensive end, while Gardner-Webb (1-14, 0-2 in conference) had 24 on the night. They had nine steals on the night and forced 20 turnovers while giving the ball away 18 times.
In a low-scoring first quarter, the Bucs began the game on a run, as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 6:34 left; however, the Runnin' Bulldogs came storming back, taking a 12-8 lead. Charleston Southern took the lead in the second quarter and kept it, with Alben pushing the lead to 32-24 with 2:18 left in the first half.
It was a strong third quarter that gave the Buccaneers a comfortable lead, as they came out of halftime with a 32-29 lead. The Bucs began the second half on a 12-3 run capped off by a two-point shot from Alben that finished with a free throw as well forcing the Runnin' Bulldogs to call a timeout.
Out of the timeout, the Bucs continued their momentum, as they pushed their lead to as high as 19 points with an 8-0 run to close out the third quarter. In the final quarter, both teams traded baskets to start out, but Jackson made it a 20-point game with a jump shot in the paint with 6:54 left to take a 67-47 lead.
For the second time in four games, Charleston Southern shot over 50% from the field, as was 32/61 from the field on the night. Defensively, they allowed Gardner-Webb to shoot 40% from the field and forced them to take 32 three point shot attempts. This was the highest scoring game for the Bucs since 2019
