Friars Best Bucs in Weekend Finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. -  The Charleston Southern softball team dropped their final game of the CSU Buc Up Tournament on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Providence Friars 3-1.

Early runs proved to be enough for the Friars (5-5), as they scored two in the first off of Charleston Southern RHP Riley Lauffer. The Friars picked up three hits in the inning.

The Bucs answered with one of their own in the bottom of the first inning, as Ashley Meckley reached on a one-out double. Two batters later, Harper Schoeneweis singled to right field to score Meckley, but was thrown out at second base trying to advance on the throw.

Providence extended the lead to 3-1 with a solo home run. That proved to be enough, as neither team scored over the final five and a half innings.

Lauffer (1-2) suffered the defeat, going 3.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits. Annah Junge pitched the final 3.1 innings and retired all 10 batters that she faced, striking out three of them.
