Kennedi Jackson had a double-double for the second-straight game (fourth time this season) on Wednesday night, but that was not enough, as the Charleston Southern Buccaneers fell to Gardner-Webb 97-63 inside Paul Porter Arena.
Kennedi Jackson had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Sha"Mya Leigh had 10 points, and
Jazmine Jackson had nine points and eight rebound, but the Bucs (4-18, 2-9 in conference) turned the ball over 29 times and shot 38% from the field. The Bucs were able to get to the line 23 times tonight, knocking down 14 (61%).
First Half
The Bucs jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a three pointer by Leigh and again at 8-6 when
Jazmine Jackson knocked down a three-pointer, but that is the only time that they would lead over the course of the night. They were able to keep it to within two after the first quarter, but the Runnin' Bulldogs out-scored the Bucs 29-7 in the second quarter to take a 51-27 lead into the locker room.
Second Half
In the third quarter, the Bucs fell behind by as much as 36 points, when Gardner-Webb hit a layup with 4:16 left in the third quarter to take a 73-36 lead. The lead was as much as 37 in the fourth quarter, as reigning Big South Player of the Week Lauren Bevis hit a jumper to take a 95-58 lead.
Next Time
Charleston Southern is back at the Buc Dome on Saturday afternoon as they play host to High Point. This will be the second time that these two teams have faced off this season. The Panthers took the win, erasing a 17-point deficit. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. and you can follow the game on ESPN+.
