GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Charleston Southern women's basketball team battled the East Carolina Pirates on the road on Thursday, dropping the contest by a 75-46 score in their final game before Christmas.
Keshunti Nichols had a career day for the Bucs (2-10) as she played a season-high 25 minutes, scoring 16 points on 7/11 shooting, which was also a career high. She also pulled down four rebounds and had two steals.
Kennedi Jackson was right behind Nichols with 12 points and seven rebounds, and
Madison Adamson pulled down a team-best 10 boards.
Charleston Southern was able to get things going early, as they tied the game at 10 with a
Maya Robinson layup at the 3:49 mark of the first quarter. After that, East Carolina (7-3) finished the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 19-10 lead.
After a
Catherine Alben three pointer made it 19-13 to open the second quarter, the Pirates went on another run, pushing the lead out to 16 with a three pointer to make it 29-13 with 6:22 left in the quarter number two. They went on to outscore the Bucs 38-22 in the first half.
The Pirates kept things going in the second half, pushing their lead to as high as 29 with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Bucs by 13 in the second half to take the win.
Charleston Southern turned the ball over 31 times on the afternoon while only forcing 10. The 31 turnovers led to 30 points the other way. The Bucs shot a season-low 41.6% from the free throw line in 12 tries and shot just 1/11 from beyond the arc. On a positive note, the Bucs pulled down 50 rebounds for the first time all season. They were +12 in the rebounding department.
