STATESBORO, GA – The Charleston Southern women's basketball team dropped a non-conference road game on Thursday morning, falling to the Georgia Southern Eagles by a final score of 81-59.
The Eagles (8-2) outscored the Bucs (2-8) 23-9 in the final quarter to take home the win. Catherine Alben was the high scorer for the Bucs, finishing with 17 points. Keshunti Nichols and Kennedi Jackson both had 11 points, and Madison Adamson had 10 rebounds.
It was a tight battle in the first quarter. Georgia Southern kept a four-point lead until Adamson cut it to one with a layup and the foul. Then, Charleston Southern scored the final four points of the quarter with back-to-back layups from Alben to make it 19-18 after one.
Charleston Southern had the lead early in the second quarter, as Alben made it 23-21 with a fast-break three pointer; however, the Eagles were able to extend the lead, going on an 18-8 run to close out the first half with a 42-32 lead.
Alben and Jackson both had nine points in the first half, while Adamson pulled down five rebounds. Six different Buccaneers were able to score points in the first half, as they shot 43.8% from the field. The Eagles shot 50.0% overall from the field.
The Bucs came out of halftime strong, as they cut the deficit to two with a 10-0 run dating back to the first half. Out of the timeout, the Eagles were able to push the lead back to double digits, but a Maya Robinson three pointer as time expired in the third quarter made it 58-50 entering the final quarter.
