Fighting Camels Pull Away in the Fourth Quarter, Defeat Bucs

Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. -  The Charleston Southern women's basketball team could not overcome a strong run in the fourth quarter by the Campbell Fighting Camels, as they fell to 0-8 in the conference with a 63-46 loss on Saturday. The Fighting Camels 11-8, 6-2 in conference) out-scored the Bucs (2-17, 0-8 in conference) 21-13 in the final quarter.

Kennedi Jackson led the Bucs with 12 points off of the bench. Catherine Alben was right behind her with 10 points and three rebounds. Once again, the Bucs were great on the defensive end, forcing 18 turnovers while only giving it away 12 times. Unfortunately for CSU, they could not overcome the exceptional rebounding from the Fighting Camels, who were +23 on the boards. 

First Half 
The Fighting Camels jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, as the Bucs went the first three minutes without scoring a bucket. That ended when Carleigh Andrews hit a three pointer. The Bucs were able to cut it to within one on multiple occasions; however, they were unable to pull ahead, as the Fighting Camels finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 15-8 lead. 

The second quarter started out well for the Bucs, as they cut the deficit to within four points with a lay-up from Alben to make it 18-14 with 4:58 left. Campbell then went on a 7-2 run to close out the first half, as Charleston Southern scored just two points in the final four minutes, falling behind 25-16 at halftime. The Bucs shot just 6/26 from the field in the first half (2/8 from beyond the arc).

Second Half
In the third quarter, the Bucs were able to cut it to within two, when Sha'Mya Leigh made it 31-29 with a two-point jump shot mid-way through. After that, the Fighting Camels stretched the lead out to nine as the Bucs scored just four points in the final 5:30 of the third quarter. In the final quarter, it was all Fighting Camels. They stretched the lead to as much as 21 points with a jump shot to make it 62-41 with 2:24 left.

The Bucs are back at home for the next two games, starting on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. when they host Winthrop.
