CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team fell to 0-6 in the Big South this season, dropping a home-contest on Saturday afternoon by a 60-46 score against the Radford Highlanders.
First Half
In the first quarter, both teams traded a pair of turnovers, but
Carleigh Andrews got the scoring started with a three-point shot with 7:48 left in the first quarter. A jumper by
Kajsa Ahlberg made it 9-7 with 3:16 left in the quarter; however, the Highlanders would then go on a 7-2 run to end the quarter to take a 14-11 lead.
Alben started the second quarter off with back-to-back lay-ups to give the Bucs the lead back, but the Highlanders followed that up with an 8-0 run to take a 22-15 lead. The Bucs cut the lead to as low as five points on two separate occasions, but Radford ended the half on a 9-2 run, taking a 30-21 lead into the locker room.
Second Half
The Radford momentum carried into the second half, as they went on a 9-2 run to start the third quarter to take a 16-point lead before a free throw by
Madison Adamson made it 39-24 with 6:17 left. The Bcs tried to make a comeback, cutting the deficit to 13 with a pair of free throws from Alben, then again, cutting the Radford lead to 12 to end the third quarter with a make from beyond the arc by
Sha'Mya Leigh, who had five points in 35 minutes.
The Bucs tried to make a comeback, getting to within nine points with just under five minutes left to go; however, the Highlanders made a couple of shots to put them up 14 with 3:04 left.
Kennedi Jackson was just one rebound away from her third double-double of the season. She had 12 points and nine rebounds. Once again,
Catherine Alben was the leading scorer for the Bucs (2-15, 0-6 in conference), coming off the bench and scoring 19 points in 27 minutes. She also led the team with three steals.
Madison Adamson led the team in rebounds with 10.The Bucs struggled from the three-point line, shooting just 16.7% from beyond the arc. They were 9/12 from the free throw line.
Next Time Out
Once again, the Bucs hit the road for a two-game road trip starting this Wednesday, when the travel to Asheville, N.C. to take on UNC Asheville. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+. Charleston Southern will not be back in the Buc Dome until January 25
th, when they host Winthrop.
