CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern women's basketball put a stamp on its 2021-22 home schedule Wednesday night, dropping a 76-42 decision to North Carolina A&T in Big South action. The Buccaneers were unable to overcome a wire-to-wire win for the visiting Aggies as the regular season nears its close.
NEAR DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Sharita Godfrey, who was joined by
Alyssia Faye and
Tyra Wright, in a pregame Senior Night celebration, almost registered her second double-double in the last-three games with a team-high 16 points to go along with a game-best nine rebounds. She hit 7-of-15 field goals, including a pair from behind the 3-point arc, while securing seven of her boards on the defensive glass in her final Buc Dome appearance.
LEIGH ADDS A PAIR FROM DEEP
Joining Godfrey with a two connections from 3-point territory was
Sha'Mya Leigh, whose six points all came from deep. She also was active on the defensive end, swiping two steals and a blocked shot.
ALMOST FOR FARGO
One of the most-consistent scorers as of late for Charleston Southern (2-25, 2-14 Big South) has been
Janaia Fargo. She tallied nine points, nearly reaching double digits for the fourth-straight contest, to finish as the team's second-leading scorer. Her five attempts from behind the 3-point line were second only to Leigh's eight.
MAKING THE BEST OF THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY
One specialty stat in which the Bucs held the advantage over North Carolina A&T (14-13, 11-6 Big South) was on second-chance points, as they won that category, 10-to-8. It's the second time in three games and only the seventh time all season in which CSU held the upper-hand.
UP NEXT
Charleston Southern will mark the end of the regular season with one final contest, a 2 p.m. Saturday clash at UNC Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina. The game will serve an important role in determining final seeding for next week's Hercules Tires Big South Championships, which start Tuesday, inside Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina.
