CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior
Sharita Godfrey is doing her best to make the most of her final few games inside the Buccaneer Fieldhouse, tallying her first double-double of the season and the third of her career but Charleston Southern women's basketball fell just short with a 69-60 setback to High Point Thursday night.
DOUBLED UP
Godfrey's double-double came as she registered a season-best 19 points to go along with 12 rebounds, one shy of her career high set earlier this season against UNC Asheville. Her 19 points are the most by any Bucs individual, this year, and included 8-of-15 from the field, 1-of-2 from behind the 3-point arc, and 2-of-2 at the charity stripe.
Her stat-sheet stuffing performance also included a team-best three assists, a block and steal in 40 minutes, just her second time never stepping off the floor throughout her CSU career.
FARGO STAYS HOT
Joining her in double-figure points once again was sophomore
Janaia Fargo, who netted three trifectas among her 15. It's her second-straight contest reaching double digits and the 11th overall, this season, all but one coming against league foes.
Fargo's final trey came on a banked shot as time expired at the end of the third quarter, helping close out a dominant 20-8 frame for Charleston Southern (2-23, 2-12 Big South) as it had rallied to take a 49-48 lead entering the final period.
LEIGH RETURNS TO FORM
Sha'Mya Leigh gave the Buccaneers an added boost off the bench with her 12 points, also featuring two triples, as she scored in double digits for the first time since an 11-point showing against Radford nearly a month ago. She matched Godfrey and
Madison Adamson with 2-of-2 at the foul line, helping the Bucs combine for 10-of-13 as a team at the stripe.
TRY, TRY AGAIN
When it came to the specialty stats, one category of dominance for Charleston Southern against High Point (13-12, 10-4 Big South) was in second-chance points. The Buccaneers cleaned up with a 15-to-2 edge with the only put-back for the Panthers coming in the second quarter as Jaden Wrightsell cleaned up her own miss with just over seven minutes to play before the half, extending the visitors' lead to six, 23-17, at that point.
UP NEXT
A rare second-straight meeting between the two schools will take place next, as they flip home facilities and familiar surroundings for the Qubein Center in High Point Saturday afternoon. That contest will tip-off at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
