Battle of the Bucs in the Buc Dome

Following a 10-day layoff for finals week, the Charleston Southern women's basketball team is back in action this Wednesday, as they host the East Tennessee State Buccaneers at 6 p.m. in the Buc Dome. This will be the final home game before the Christmas holidays.

This will be the second overall meeting between these two teams, and the first meeting since 1989, where East Tennessee State cruised to a 99-68 victory.

East Tennessee State
The East Tennessee State Buccaneers come into this game with a record of 8-3 to start the season, with their most impressive win coming against the Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC back on December 1st.  This is the best start that the program has had since 1994. They won four games in a row dating back to November 26th, but their streak was snapped this past Sunday with a home loss to Bowling Green. Away from home, they are a combined 4-2 on both visiting courts and neutral sites.

The Buccaneers are led by Head Coach Brenda Mock Brown, who is in her first season as Head Coach in Johnson City, TN. She is the 10th Head Coach in the program's history. Charleston Southern is quite familiar with Coach Mock, as she was the Head Coach of Big South foe, UNC Asheville from 2012-20. She is looking to ETSU to their first winning season since the 2017-18 season.

Charleston Southern
  • With a record of 2-7, the Bucs look to snap a three-game losing streak.
  • The schedule has not been easy for Head Coach Clarisse Garcia and her team to start the season. They have played two schools from the ACC (Duke and Clemson) as well as one from the Sunbelt Conference (Georgia Southern), American Athletic Conference (East Carolina). It will not end there, as the Bucs travel to Columbia, S.C. this Sunday to take on the top-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.
  • The Bucs have averaged 51.1 points per game through their first nine games of the season. They will be challenged on Wednesday, as ETSU is 17th in the nation in points allowed per game (51.8).
  • On the defensive side, the Bucs are averaging 74.2 points per game. That is a scoring margin of -23.1.
  • As a team, CSU has done a good job at the free throw line with a 66% FT percentage.
  • Turnovers have been something that the Bucs are trying to clean up, as they are averaging 24.9 turnovers per game while forcing 13.8 per game.
  • Individually, the Bucs have been led offensively by Catherine Alben, who started her first career game against the College of Charleston back on December 4th. She leads the Bucs in scoring this season, averaging 9.2 points per game.
  • Defensively, Kennedi Jackson has been the leading rebounder, with 42 of her 52 boards coming on defense. She is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game, which leads the team. Madison Adamson is right behind her with 5.7 rebounds per game.
