The Charleston Southern women's basketball team will travel to Fairfax, VA on Wednesday to play the George Mason Patriots. The Bucs come in with a record of 1-2 after losing at the Buc Dome to Georgia Southern on Sunday.
George Mason
The Patriots come in with an overall record of 0-3 on the season, having lost to Maryland, Robert Morris and Pittsburgh to start their season. They were picked to finish last in the Atlantic-10 Conference this season.
George Mason is led by Head Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis, who is in her second season in Fairfax. Blair-Lewis was hired by George Mason in 2021 after a 13-year stint with Bethune Cookman. In her first season, the Patriots finished with a record of 10-19 (3-12 in the A-10). The year prior, the Patriots were winless in conference play.
Charleston Southern
- In the first three games of the season, Sha'Mya Leigh is averaging 13.7 points per game and 36 minutes per game. She is 6/11 from beyond the arc and is shooting 59.3% overall from the field. She was the leading scorer last game with 20 points, playing all 40 minutes in the loss to Georgia Southern.
- Kennedi Jackson was a rebound away from a double-double on Sunday against the Eagles, finishing with 15 points and nine boards overall. She is the second-leading rebounder on the team with six per game as well as the second leading scorer, averaging 11.3 points per game.
- Catherine Alben had quite the debut for the Buccaneers in their opening-night win against Georgia College and State. The freshman finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds, earning a double-double. She is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game, which is most on the team.
- Turnovers have been a problem for the Bucs this season. In their first three games of the season, Charleston Southern is averaging a little over 23 turnovers per game.
- The Bucs are finding success from beyond the arc. The team is shooting 37% from three.
