The Georgia Southern Eagles defeated the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Sunday by a score of 96-65 at the Buc Dome. This was the second loss in a row for the Buccaneers (1-2).
Sha'Mya Leigh played all 40 minutes for Charleston Southern and was the leading scorer as well with 20 points. She was 8/13 from the field including 3/5 from beyond the arc. Kennedi Jackson added 15 points and nine rebounds.
First Half
The Bucs got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter. After Georgia Southern called a timeout, they responded by going on a 13-1 run to end the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Eagles' lead jumped to 12 points after back-to-back free throws made it 46-34. The Bucs, however, were able to cut the deficit to nine points at the end of the half with a three pointer by Leigh. The Eagles took a 48-39 lead into the locker room.
Second Half
The second half was all Eagles, as they outscored the Bucs 48-26. The Eagles started the half on a 12-2 run to take a 21-point lead. Their lead got to as high as 22 in the quarter, and they held the Bucs to just nine points.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles lead got to as high as 32, when they hit a jump shot to take a 92-60 lead.
Turnovers
For the second straight game, the Bucs struggled with turnovers. They gave the ball away 26 times, leading to 28 points by the Eagles. Georgia Southern shot 57.1% from the field, including 53.8% from beyond the arc.
