CLINTON, S.C. – A strong first-quarter start for the Charleston Southern women's basketball team was unable to be maintained, as the host Presbyterian Blue Hose rallied and used a stronger second half to turn back the Bucs, 68-58, Wednesday evening in Big South play inside the Templeton Center.
GODFREY NEARS UNCONVENTIONAL DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Senior
Sharita Godfrey inched closer to her first double-double of the season, falling just shy despite a nine-point, eight-assist effort in what would have been an unconventional way of accomplishing the feat. Her eight assists are a new career high and are the most by any Bucs player, this season, topping her own six against Furman Dec. 16. She also had Four rebounds and two blocked shots, tying another career best, in her starting role.
BALTZEGAR POWERS WAY TO CAREER HIGH
Two-time Big South Freshman of the Week
Skylar Baltezegar continued to make her case for the league's top postseason honor presented to a first-year standout as she tallied 14 points, sharing the game-high total, to go along with her six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a steal. Her 14 points are a new career best, surpassing the 13 she had poured in two times previously, and included a power layup move to the rim in the second quarter.
FARGO STAYS EN FUEGO
Sophomore
Janaia Fargo hit double-figure points for the second time in three games, contributing 12 points and giving her 35 over that current stretch. She has connected from behind the 3-point arc in each of those contests, her longest span of the season.
STRONG START
Charleston Southern (1-14, 1-3 Big South) torched the nets over the course of the first quarter, burying 9-of-14 field goals, including a pair of triples, to take a 20-18 lead after the frame. The ball continued to drop through the rim in the second period, converting 6-of-13 in that stanza, to trail by just four, 40-36, at the break before Presbyterian (6-7, 1-2 Big South) mounted its comeback.
UP NEXT
The Buccaneers return to their home court this weekend when they play host to UNC Asheville in just their second conference game inside the Buc Dome, so far, this season.
