CHARLESTON, S.C. – Eastern Kentucky used a five-run frame in each game of Sunday's doubleheader to sweep Charleston Southern in nonconference softball action from CSU Softball Field.
The Colonels (4-2) used a five-run second inning to break a scoreless tie in game one for an 8-3 win over the Buccaneers (1-3) then a five-run fifth inning in the nightcap to erase a 5-2 deficit at the time before adding insurance runs for an 11-5 win and doubleheader sweep.
Emily Crosby and
Ashley Meckley showcased their power Sunday combining for three home runs on the day with Crosby going deep in each game of the twinbill and Meckley going yard in the finale for her second of the weekend. Both Crosby and Meckley pace the Bucs with a pair of homers through one weekend of play.
Crosby would finish the day with three RBI's while Meckley drove-in three runners in the second contest.
Ariyanna Miranda powered the Colonels with five RBI on the day with three coming in the second contest.

Game 1 | EKU 8, Charleston Southern 3
- Jasmine Miller and Jaelyn Sanders each hit home runs as Eastern Kentucky struck early with a five-run second inning
- Charleston Southern would respond in the bottom half with a run and would cut it to a 6-3 margin on Crosby's first home run of the day
- Eastern Kentucky added two more in the fourth to extend it back out to 8-3 where it would hold the rest of the way
Game 2 | EKU 11, Charleston Southern 5
- Both Crosby and Meckley went deep in game two as the Bucs built a 5-1 lead thanks to a three spot in the first inning then a pair of runs in the third
- Eastern Kentucky responded pushing across a run in the fourth to make it 5-2 at the time
- A five-run fifth pushed the Colonels ahead 7-5 as they scored four of their runs before the first out then added four more in the seventh for the final 11-5 margin
