Bucs unable to overcome Campbell first half surge in series finale

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Campbell jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and Charleston Southern was unable to make a dent in the Camels lead throughout the contest as the Buccaneers fell at home in the series finale, 66-51.

Campbell (10-5, 7-3 Big South) jumped out to a 14-1 lead in the first quarter and led by as many as 26 in the contest on their way to closing out the series sweep over the Bucs. CSU (6-8, 4-6 Big South) was paced by Sharita Godfrey's 14 points, nine coming in the second half, as the Bucs rallied to close the gap late in the contest.

Godfrey's 14 points led the Bucs' scoring efforts as the junior guard finished the game 6-of-13 from the floor and 2-of-4 from behind the three-point line. Jamya Rogers added nine points off the bench, while Alyssia Faye, Makenna Winans, and Sha'Mya Leigh all finished with seven points apiece in the loss.

Taya Bolden recorded her second double-double in as many games for the Camels in leading the team with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Lauren McNamara-Clement added 14 points, while Shyanne Tuelle chipped in 10 points off the bench in the Camels' win.
 
First Quarter
Campbell jumped out to a 14-1 lead with Luisa Serranho connecting on a pair of early three-pointers to pace the Camels' run. The Bucs fought their way back into the contest from the free throw line with Janaia Fargo and Alyssia Faye both converting free throws, while Sha'Mya Leigh connected on a pair of baskets in the paint to cut the lead down to 17-8 at the quarter break.

Second Quarter
Jamya Rogers was fouled on a layup and converted the three-point play at the 9:40 mark in the second quarter to narrow the Campbell lead down to 17-11. The Camels responded with an 8-0 run capped by a pair of Faith Price free throws to go up 25-11 with 5:43 to play in the half. Campbell shot 55.6% from the floor in the second quarter in holding the 45-21 lead at the half.

Third Quarter
Makenna Winans opened the scoring for the Bucs in the third quarter as the freshman forward hit nothing but net from the top of the key at the 9:20 mark to narrow the Campbell lead down to 47-24. The Bucs and Camels swapped baskets throughout a majority of the third quarter with Rogers hitting a layup at the 1:24 mark to bring CSU back within 53-35. The Camels scored the final four points of the quarter to put Campbell ahead 57-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter
Fargo and Faye connected on back-to-back baskets following Campbell turnovers as the Buccaneers narrowed the gap down to 57-39 with 7:53 to play in the fourth quarter. The Bucs continued to keep pace with the Camels throughout the quarter with Godfrey and Fargo both scoring five points over the final 10 minutes of the game. Fargo converted a three-point play in the closing seconds of the contest as the Bucs fell 66-51.
