Bucs fall short in weekend matchup at Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Radford took control of the game early and took advantage of a dominant team performance inside the paint as Charleston Southern fell to the host Highlanders on Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center, 72-35.
 
The Highlanders (4-7, 2-0 Big South) built a 13-point lead in the first quarter and led by as many as 26 in the first half on their way to picking up their second Big South win of the season. The Bucs (2-10, 0-3 Big South) were paced by Kelsie Ruff, Carmella Walker, and Ahlea Myers' eight-point performances in the contest as CSU fell in their third conference game of the season.
 
Ruff scored all eight of her points in the first half to pace the Bucs early in the contest. Myers and Walker added 15 of CSU's 23 points in the second half to lead CSU's scoring efforts in the second half. AWalker added five rebounds and a team-high four steals, while Sharita Godfrey posted six rebounds in the loss.
 
Amele Ngwafang and Sydney Nunley paced the Highlanders with double-doubles to lead three Highlanders scoring double figures in the contest. Ngwafang posted 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Nunley added 15 points and 11 boards off the bench for Radford. Khiana Johnson added 11 points and five assists in the win.

  • Charleston Southern was 19.1% (13-of-68) from the floor, 16.7% (4-of-24) from the three-point line, and 62.5% (5-of-8) from the free throw line in the loss.
  • Radford was 42.2% (27-of-64) from the field, 18.5% (5-of-27) from behind the arc, and 61.9% (13-of-21) from the charity stripe in the win.
  • Radford held the 38-12 advantage on points in the paint and 19-2 edge in second-chance points.
  • CSU was outscored 29-15 in bench scoring, but paced the Highlanders with the 11-4 edge in points off turnovers.
