BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Charleston Southern was unable to crack the Campbell defense on Tuesday night in the Big South women's basketball matchup as the Buccaneers fell on the road to the host Camels, 61-36.
The Bucs (3-14, 1-7 Big South) were limited to 30.8% shooting from the floor as a team against one of the toughest defenses in the NCAA as CSU fell to the Camels for the fourth consecutive time in the series. Campbell (13-5, 8-1 Big South) entered the contest with a top-five NCAA Division I defense and held their eighth Big South opponent under 55 points scoring in the win.
Carmella Walker paced the Bucs with a team-high 12 points and six rebounds. The junior guard was 6-of-10 from the free throw line and added a steal in the loss.
Tierra Steede added 10 rebounds and two blocked shots, while
Sharita Godfrey chipped in eight points for the Bucs.
Luana Serranho connected on five of Campbell's 11 three-pointers in the game to lead all scorers with 19 points. Hayley Barber added 12 points, while Taya Bolden chipped in eight points and 11 boards in the win.
