CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern and Winthrop meet on Wednesday in a battle between teams in search of their first Big South win of the season. Kickoff at the CSU Soccer Field is at 3:30 in the first of two home games this week for the Buccaneers.
Both teams are coming off ties on Saturday. CSU (3-5-2, 0-1-2) played to a 0-0 draw at Longwood, with
Jazmin Gonzalez making seven saves including a pair of spectacular stops in overtime. The Eagles (2-5-1, 0-2-1) got a goal from Gabi Hull in the 60th minute to gain a 1-1 deadlock against Campbell.
Kylie Doster leads CSU with three goals, and
Zari Hayes and
Elise Borys both have two.
Bri Robinson paces the Bucs with three assists, and
Dakota Fiedler has two.Â
Gonzalez has made 48 saves and owns a 1.16 goals against average, the sixth-best mark in the Big South. She enters this week's action with 139 career saves, tied for ninth in school history and 13 away from passing Liz-Amanda Brown for eighth.
Hull is tied with Allie Thomas and Natalie Royaards for the Winthrop team lead with three goals, and Keeley Leising ranks second in the Big South with seven assists. Ashlynn Harris has played all 740 minutes and has 44 saves along with a 1.82 GAA.
The all-time series is even at 6-6-5. The Bucs have consecutive 1-0 wins the past two years, including last season in Charleston on a goal by
Peyton Motley in the 78th minute.
CSU continues its homestand on Saturday against Gardner-Webb.
