Bucs wrap up competition at Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Charleston Southern finished in 17th place Tuesday at the Briar's Creek Invitational. Freshman Daniela Intriago paced the Bucs with a final round 78 to finish in a tie for 64th in a strong field featuring four of Golfstat's top-40 ranked programs.

No. 29 North Carolina captured the team title with a tournament record tally of 16-under par 848. The Tar Heels distanced themselves from No. 40 Campbell to win by six strokes. No. 23 Illinois placed third at +3 overall.

Individually, UNC's Kelly Whaley set the event's individual scoring record with a 12-under 204. Whaley posted a final round 69 Tuesday for her third straight effort in the 60's. Campbell's Desiree Andersson, at -7, earned runner-up honors.

Intriago played a strong one-over back nine, posting seven pars and a birdie, to bump up into a tie for 64th. Seniors Emelie Flink (T-74th) and Milleina Ohara (T-79th) were the Bucs' other top finishers. Classmate Hayley McNeill tallied a team-high three birdies in the final round.

CSU returns to competition April 2-3 at the Charleston Invitational in Mount Pleasant. The Bucs will co-host the event with College of Charleston at Rivertowne Country Club.
