GREENVILLE, N.C. – Charleston Southern senior Hayley McNeill carded a final round one-under par 71 to surge into a tie for 11th place at the Pirate Collegiate Classic on Tuesday. McNeill was one of only five players to score in the red, leading CSU to a tenth-place showing as a team.
Host East Carolina captured its third straight title in the event with a tournament record final tally of one-over par 865. The Pirates' Dorthea Forbrigd edged teammate Kate Law on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to take medalist honors in the 90-player field. The ECU duo both totaled 54-hole marks of -1. Western Kentucky finished runner-up at +14, while Towson placed third at +22.
McNeill birdied three of the first five holes on the front nine – her final nine of the day – en route to going out in two-under 34. The Australian closed in steady fashion with four consecutive pars to tie ECU's Kathryn Carson for 11th place with a composite score of +5. McNeill finished just one shot out of tenth, and two back of a five-way tie for fifth.
Emelie Flink was the other top performer for coach Matt Cram-Smith's Bucs, finishing in a tie for 45th. She had four bogeys on the back nine and bogeyed 1, 2 and 3 before recovering with even-par golf over the final third of her round to shoot 78.
Milleina Ohara recorded a final round 79 to place in a tie for 49th at +19. She dropped in three birdies on the front nine to go out in 37 and finish near the top half of the field.
Freshmen Xuss Boira (T-73rd (+25)) and Daniela Intriago (T-83rd (+30)) rounded out the Bucs' lineup. Boira had an eagle two at the par-four fifth hole to highlight CSU's round three action.
CSU will return to action next week at the Jacksonville Classic in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
