KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Charleston Southern sophomore Andriel Aimua carded an opening round three-over par 75 on Sunday and stands in a tie for 15th place at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. CSU is tied for 12th as a team in the event, hosted by College of Charleston at Kiawah Island's Turtle Point Golf Club.
Ole Miss posted a team total of two-over par 290 and holds the clubhouse lead entering Monday's second round. The Rebels are five strokes in front of second-place Old Dominion and seven ahead of third-place Marshall. Ole Miss's Diane Lim is atop the individual leaderboard at -4, with teammate Julia Johnson close behind at -2.
CSU recorded a team total of 23-over 311 on Sunday. The Bucs are tied with UNCG and within striking distance of the top half of the tightly bunched 17-team field. CSU will go into Monday's second round trailing fifth-place College of Charleston by just nine shots.
Aimua played a steady round with 15 pars to pace coach Matt Cram-Smith's Bucs. Senior Hayley McNeill (T-23rd) continued her solid play atop CSU's lineup with a four-over 76. McNeill played the front nine at +1.
Emelie Flink (T-59th) contributed CSU's third counted score with a 79. Milleina Ohara and Daniela Intriago each shot 81, and are tied for 70th place.
Monday's second round is slated to begin at 9 a.m., with CSU playing alongside UNCG and Troy.
