ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Alyssa Mann scored a game-high 23 points as No. 7 Charleston Southern topped No. 10 Longwood in the Big South Women's Basketball Championships First Round on Thursday afternoon in Kimmel Arena, 72-50.

The Buccaneers (14-16) led from start to finish in topping the Lancers for the third time in the 2015-16 season. CSU went up by double-digits in the first quarter and led by 20 at the half in eliminating Longwood from postseason play.

"We're pretty excited about the game," said CSU head coach Fred Applin. "It was a team effort that everybody came out and played tonight. We played a good team in Longwood; it's hard to beat a team three times in a season, but I'm very proud of the way we executed and handled their pressure."

CSU advances to take on No. 2 Liberty in the Big South Championships Quarterfinal Round on Friday night. Tipoff in Kimmel Arena on ESPN3 is set for 6 p.m.

"We're going to have to play solid defense against Liberty," said Applin. "They're big; we have to rebound and box out against them. This team (CSU) is up to challenges. We need to execute well and hit our shots early."

Mann went 9-for-14 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from behind the arc, for her seventh 20 point game of the season. She finished with two rebounds and two steals in the win over the Lancers.

Rachel Burns was also in double-digits with 12 points in the win with the freshman guard connecting on 4-of-11 from the floor. The Bucs shot 39.7% overall in the game, including 52.9% in the first half on their way to building a 41-21 lead.

Monique Maximilien (9) and Elyse Kiploks (8) combined for 17 rebounds as the Bucs held the 54-35 rebounding edge over the Lancers. The Bucs out-scored Longwood 21-10 in second chance points and held the 26-16 advantage in bench points in the contest.

Micaela Ellis (11), Deborah Headen (10) and Daeisha Brown (10) were all in double-digits for Longwood in the loss.

Burns sparked the Bucs offense in the first quarter with seven points as CSU jumped out to an 18-8 lead at the 1:55 mark. Breanna Saunders added a late layup in the quarter to give the Bucs the 22-12 lead at the break.

Charleston Southern continued to press their advantage in the second quarter as CSU utilized a 9-0 run with Mann connecting on a three-pointer and a layup during the stretch in building a 33-15 lead. CSU's lead reached 20 points with 2:49 remaining on a Kiploks jumper in the paint as CSU went into the break with 41-21 lead.

The Bucs' lead reached 27 in the third quarter following a Burns' three-pointer at the 2:59 mark and Longwood was unable to bring the game back within 19 the rest of the way as CSU topped the Lancers.
