CHARLESTON, S.C. - Radford held off Charleston Southern late from the free throw line as the Buccaneers fell to the visiting Highlanders on Saturday afternoon inside the Buc Dome, 64-57.
CSU fought to bring the game back within two possessions late in the contest as Shauntavia Dobson scored seven of her eight second half points in the final three minutes, but Aisha Foy led Radford in going 11-of-12 from the free throw line in the second half as the Highlanders held off the Bucs for the second time this season.
Alyssa Mann scored a team-high 17 points from the floor to lead CSU on the afternoon while Dobson finished in double-digits with 13 points as the Bucs shot 35.6% from the floor in the game. Monique Maximilien pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and dished out three assists in the loss.
Foy led all scorers with 19 points, while Janayla White and Jordynn Gaymon had nine rebounds apiece in leading the Highlanders to the road win.
White and CSU's Alise Karlsone traded baskets to open the game before Radford opened up the game with a 9-0 run capped by a Foy three-pointer to put the score at 11-2 with 12:04 to play in the first half. The Highlanders lead reached double-digits late at 28-18 in the first half on a Gaby Gilmore free throw at the 1:28 mark as Radford went into the break leading 29-22.
Mann and Nayla Long scored back-to-back baskets for the Bucs to cut the lead back to three at 32-29 with 17:42 remaining, but the Highlanders responded with a three-pointer from Ayana Avery on their way to going back up by double-digits. Radford's lead reached as many as 15 at the midway point of the half before CSU made their late run back into the game.
The Bucs return to the road on Tuesday night as CSU travels to The HTC Center in Conway, S.C. to take on Coastal Carolina. Tipoff between the Bucs and the Chanticleers is set for 7 p.m.
