Charleston Southern falls to 8-15, 3-11 in Big South Conference play on the season, while Presbyterian improves to 15-10, 10-4 in conference action.

"The biggest thing I took from this game was execution," commented head coach Fred Applin following the contest. "We played solid defense on the road, but we had too many lapses in the last two minutes of the first half and they (Presbyterian) took advantage of them. Those two three-pointers killed us and we can't have that happen."

Lakeitha Alston led the Lady Bucs with 23 points, narrowly missing out on her fourth double-double of the season with nine rebounds and tied a career-high with three made three-pointers in the game in leading the CSU offense. Anicia Dotson also connected on three treys in finishing with 14 points, while Shay Jones scored 10 points off the bench, all in the second half, for the Bucs.

"We've talked about turnovers and have done pretty well the past couple of games," said Applin on the turnover battle in the game. "We're glad Shay (Jones) is back. We need her, and need everybody to play well."

Shonda Burnside led four PC players in double-digits, scoring 18 points and added four blocked shots, while Mariah Pietrowski went 10-for-10 from the free throw line in scoring 16 points and adding eight rebounds. Karlee Taylor was a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc in scoring 17 points, while David finished in double-digits with 12 points and five assists to pace the Blue Hose to the season sweep over CSU.

In a game featuring the top free throw shooting team in the Big South Conference in Charleston Southern, Presbyterian did most of their damage from the line, hitting 25-of-29 attempts from the charity stripe, led by perfect performances by Burnside, Pietrowski, Taylor and Noelle Carter.

Pietrowski started a back-and-forth first half between the Lady Bucs and the Blue Hose, hitting her first two free throws to stake Presbyterian to an early 2-0 lead. Alston followed less than a minute later with her first three-pointer of the contest to put CSU up 3-2 with 18:06 to play.

CSU connected from the outside early, as Alston, Fowler and Dotson connected on three-pointers, with Dotson's trey snapping a 13-all tie with 12:56 remaining, giving CSU the 16-13 advantage.

"Early in the game, our defense gave us momentum and it translated into our early offensive success," said Applin on the team's hot start from behind the arc. "I think we got tired a little bit, they got some rebounds and started to hit some shots and that hurt us."

Devin Fothergill cut into the lead with a jumper in the pain, but Dotson connected on a free throw attempt and Alston drained her third three-pointer of the half, tying a career single game record in the process to stake the Lady Bucs to their largest lead of the first half at 20-15 with 10:30 remaining.

Back-to-back baskets by Burnside and a three-pointer by Taylor led to the second tie of the game as Fothergill knotted the score at 23-all with 7:43 to play, making the first of two free throw attempts.

The Bucs extended their lead back out to four following back-to-back baskets by Bratcher and Dotson, but PC answered with consecutive layups on their next two trips down the court as Burnside and Parker evened the score at 27-all with 4:35 to play.

Parker followed with a short jumper, giving the Blue Hose their first lead of the contest since the opening possession, connecting on a jumper with 2:30 to play. Alston answered with a jumper on the other end for the Bucs, but three-pointers by David and Taylor extended the Blue Hose lead to four points at 35-31 with 59 seconds remaining.

David connected on a late three-pointer from the left wing with 28 seconds left in the opening half, answering a pair of free throws by Alston as CSU entered the halftime break trailing 38-33.

David's three-pointer at the end of the first half sparked a 10-0 run which carried over through the first six minutes of the second half as Pietrowski connected on a pair of free throws and David hit a jumper, before Parker connected on a three-pointer from the top of the key, giving the Blue Hose the 45-33 advantage with 14:29 to play.

Charleston Southern brought the game back to within single digits as Jones went on a 5-2 run, connecting on a three-pointer from the left corner to pull CSU within nine at 47-38 with 12:38 on the clock.

Burnside followed with a layup to push the lead back into double figures and the Blue Hose took control the remainder of the game, going up by as many as 20 with 45 seconds remaining as Megan Schaaf connected on a short hook shot in the lane as CSU fell at home to Presbyterian, 79-61.

Two players reached passed career milestones in the contest today as CSU's Alston and PC's Pietrowski both passed the 600 rebound mark in their careers in the game.

"It's going to be a battle on Thursday," commented Applin on next week's rematch against Coastal Carolina. "We've got to box out, execute and rebound at both ends of the court."
