CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team remained perfect on its home court in the month of February with a 77-72 victory over High Point on Saturday afternoon at Buccaneer Fieldhouse.

Donning pink pre-game t-shirts and hair accessories in honor of "Play 4 Kay" Day, the Bucs (15-10, 8-6 BSC) overcame a slow start and connected on crucial free throws down the stretch to hand High Point (14-10, 9-4 BSC) its fourth straight loss.

Junior forward Lakeitha Alston scored 24 points and junior wing Rachelle Coward added 20 for CSU. Anicia Dotson scored 13 points for CSU, which shot 54.7 percent from the floor and made nine-of-20 three-point attempts. CSU also converted 10-of-13 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Panthers led for the majority of the first half behind senior Shamia Brown's 14 points. Brown would finish the game with 25 points. Alston and Coward powered CSU early with 22 of the team's 33 first half points. Coward's three-pointer with 3:21 remaining in the half tied the contest at 31.

High Point retaliated with a trey by sophomore Taylor Wimbash. Alston added a layup with 1:17 left on the clock to pull the Bucs within one point. Neither team scored in the waning minutes, and the Panthers headed into the second half with a narrow 34-33 advantage.

High Point increased its lead to eight points (43-35) in the first three minutes of the second half, punctuating its nine-point run with a layup by junior Laura Whitt. The Bucs chipped away at the lead over the next seven minutes and Coward's jumper in the paint tied the game at 50-50 with just under 10 minutes to play. The teams continued to trade baskets until back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Shannon Saunders and Coward gave CSU a three-point edge with 5:35 remaining in the game.

The lead didn't last as Panthers' Taylor Tremblay responded with her own shot from behind the arc just 10 seconds later, tying the game for the eighth time. The teams traded the lead two more times until Charleston Southern took a three-point lead on a basket by sophomore Anicia Dotson with just over three minutes left to play. Dotson later sank three free throws in the final 30 seconds to give CSU its fourth straight win on at home and 11th against just two losses for the season as a whole.

Charleston Southern's "Play 4 Kay" Day was sponsored by MUSC Health and was one of hundreds of women's games across the country designed to raise awareness for breast cancer in February. The event is named in honor of former North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow, who passed away on January 26, 2009 following a prolonged battle with breast cancer.

The Bucs will play their final home game on Monday when they host Campbell at 7 p.m. in the Buc Dome. CSU will then finish its season with a three-game road swing to Coastal Carolina, Winthrop and Presbyterian, before heading to High Point to participate in the Big South Conference Tournament from March 9-11.
