• BRIEF SERIES HISTORY
The Bucs lead the all time series matchup against the
Presbyterian Blue Hose with eight wins to two losses.
The last meeting between the two squads resulted in a 52-47 win
for Charleston Southern.
Below is a brief recap of that game.
Charleston Southern came out flat today and shot 3-of-19 in the
first ten minutes. Despite shooting so poorly the Bucs were still
in the lead at a score of 11-10.
The shooting percentage discrepancy continued to widen
throughout the first half. The half ended with CSU shooting 26%.
The Blue Hose doubled up the Bucs by shooting 52% in the first
half.
The score remained close throughout the first half with a total
of ten lead changes and the highest lead for either team being the
Blue Hose' half time lead of seven points at a score of 30-23.
In the second half the two team's roles had seemed to be
reversed. Presbyterian went completely cold on the offensive end.
The Blue Hose in fact did not connect on a single field goal in the
final 9:49 of tonight's contest.
The 19-4 run to finish the game was enough to log an important
Big South victory at home.
BUCS BREAK OWN BIG SOUTH RECORD
The Bucs broke the Big South record for three point field goals
made in a game with 18, a record they themselves previously owned.
CSU set that record set last season at High Point, on Feb. 9, 2010,
when they made 17 from beyond the arc. The Bucs were unconscious
from three-point land in the first half. Eleven of their 18 three
point makes came in the opening frame.
It was by far the Bucs' best shooting night of the season. They
shot 58% from the field (35-60) and 50% from deep (18-36).
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN ON FIRE
The Bucs hit on their first seven shots from the field and would
continue their stellar shooting throughout the first half making 15
of their first 19 shots from the field. They scored 58 points in
the first half alone. That total was more points then the Bucs have
scored in the entire game of ten previous contests this
season.
WASMER REBOUNDS
After a disapointing outing against High Point in which she was
held scoreless for the first time in her CSU career, senior guard
Kelsey Wasmer responded and led the Buccaneers with 23 points on
the night. She shot an astounding 7-of-10 from beyond the arc.
WASMER REACHES MILLENIUM MARK
Buccaneer senior Kelsey Wasmer recently past the 1,000-point
milestone for her career. She presently sits at 1,054 points.
Wasmer is one of the most versatile players in the Big South. She
presently ranks among the Big South leaders in scoring (4th, 13.9
ppg), rebounding (5th, 7.1 rpg) and three-pointers made (6th,
42).
Charleston Southern is now one of only two teams in the Big
South to have two active 1,000 point scorers on their roster, the
other team being High Point.
IN THE NATIONAL NCAA RANKINGS
Charleston Southern senior guard Katie Tull is presently 3rd in
the entire NCAA in three pointers made per contest with 3.3 made
threes per contest.
Charleston Southern as a team is presently ranked 13th in the
nation in that same category averaging 7.6 makes from deep per
game.
TEXAS TWO STEP
Charleston Southern boasts two of the Big South conference's top
three scorers this season. Katie Tull is currently first in the Big
South in scoring with 15.7 ppg. Kelsey Wasmer is not far behind
Tull with 13.9 ppg average. Both are in their senior seasons at CSU
and both hail from Texas.
COMMON NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENT
The Buccaneers and Blue Hose have shared four common
non-conference opponents. They both faced Furman, Clemson, South
Carolina and Erskine. Both teams went 1-3 in those games with
blowout wins at home over Erskine.
TULL'S BIG GAMES
Senior Katie Tull is leading the conference with 7 twenty point
games this season. She has had four games that she has scored
between 25-29 points which is also tops in the conference.
LEADING THE CONFERENCE
Katie Tull is presently leading the Big South Conference in
scoring with a 15.7 ppg average. If Tull were to finish the season
as the conference's leading scorer, she would be the first
Buccaneer to lead the Big South conference in scoring since
Charleston Southern's all-time leading scorer Chrissy Kelly in the
1995-96 season averaging 16.1 points per game that season.
With her most recent 24 point performance against Gardner-Webb
Tull moves into 4th place on the CSU all-scoring list with 1,303
career points.
