Lady Bucs Beat Georgia Southern 2-1

Box score

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Charleston Southern women's soccer team got their first road win of the season, Sunday, as they beat Georgia Southern 2-1. With the victory, CSU improves to 3-1, while GSU falls to 2-2. The game was originally scheduled to be part of the Big South Challenge at Coastal Carolina, but was changed due to the threat of Hurricane Hanna.

Midway through the first half, Briana Murphy took a pass from Jen Vroman and pushed it into the goal for her second goal of the season.

The Lady Eagles had a quick response as they scored just 1:02 later on an Ashley Toussaint goal past Jena Uvalle, who tallied three saves in her second start of the year.

Vroman got her second assist of the game as her pass to Sarah Catenacci led to the go-ahead goal, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Again it was all about the defense in the second half for CSU, as they allowed just one shot in the second half. They have allowed just 10 second-half shots all season, and just three in the last two contests, both wins.

The Lady Bucs will travel to the northeast as they take on Long Island and Wagner next weekend. Three players on the CSU roster are from the New York/New Jersey area, including senior Caitlin Gunyan, who hails from Rockville Centre, N.Y.
