CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern Associate Athletic Director for Communications/Public Relations Seth Montgomery announced on Monday afternoon the promotion of Derrick Bennington to Associate Director of Athletic Communications and the addition of Harrison Huntley as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.
With the addition on Huntley, CSU's spring sports coverage will shift as Montgomery will cover softball and both golf programs, Bennington will cover baseball, and Huntley will provide coverage for CSU's women's tennis and track & field programs.
"The ability to recognize two individuals who will continue to help showcase Charleston Southern, the athletic department and our student-athletes is the primary goal of our Athletic Communications Department," Montgomery said. "Having two skilled professionals such as Derrick and Harrison on board is a huge boon to our department. I look forward to their successes at CSU and their positive impact on our department."
Bennington joined the CSU Athletic Communications staff in the fall of 2018 from Longwood University and has been serving as the Bucs' volleyball, women's basketball, and baseball contact.
Bennington spent two years at Longwood University as the Athletics Communications Assistant working primarily with field hockey, women's lacrosse, and men's/women's tennis. He also served as the secondary contact for men's/women's basketball, baseball and softball helping with gameday programs, game notes, and social media.
A native of Staunton, Va., Bennington graduated from Longwood in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies before returning to Longwood in the athletics communications office. During his time as an undergrad, Bennington was part of the sports staff at The Rotunda, Longwood's on-campus student newspaper, served as the Sports Director at WMLU 91.3 FM on-campus student radio station as well as a primary color commentator for the Big South Network his senior year.
Huntley joins the CSU Athletic Communications staff in late February 2019 after serving as an Athletic Communications Assistant at Middle Tennessee State University and as the primary media contact for the Softball, Cross Country, Track & Field, and Tennis programs.
Huntley also worked with the MT's men's basketball and women's soccer programs during his tenure at MT helping capture in-game highlights, as well as supervising student interns.
No stranger to CSU, Huntley graduated from Charleston Southern in May 2018 having served as a student assistant in the Athletic Communications Department throughout his collegiate career. In the spring of 2018, Huntley served as the primary contact for baseball providing in-game coverage throughout the season, as well as helping as a replay technician for DV Sport at home football games.
