CSU takes on Presbyterian and UNC Asheville in Big South action

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Following last weekend’s road trips to VMI and Radford, Charleston Southern remains in Big South Conference play as they travel to Presbyterian College on Thursday evening, while hosting UNC Asheville on Saturday morning at Buccaneer Field.

CSU (5-7-1, 3-3 BSC) travels to Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian (1-12, 1-5 BSC) on October 11th, with kickoff taking place at Edens Field at Martin Stadium. The Lady Bucs close out the weekend welcoming UNC Asheville (3-11, 1-5 BSC) to Buccaneer Field on October 13th, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. Live Stats will be provided for both matches, while the Thursday matchup between CSU and Presbyterian will be streamed live via the Big South Network.

Toni Lashley has led the Buccaneers’ offense on the season with eight goals,evening last year’s season high and looks to continue her scoring ways. The junior forward from Union County, N.C. had a five-game scoring streak and has added four goals over the past three games in victories over Liberty and VMI as the Lady Bucs continue to fight for a postseason berth.

CSU is currently 3-3 on the season in Big South Conference play, winning against Gardner-Webb, Liberty and VMI, while falling to Winthrop, Longwood and Radford.

Charleston Southern leads the all-time series lead over Presbyterian by a count of 4-1 since the teams began playing each other back in 2007. CSU has won the past three contests with a 10-2 advantage in goals over the span.

Presbyterian enters the weekend with one win in conference play as the Blue Hose topped VMI on September 29th at home, winning 4-1 behind a pair of goals by Tori Lopez and scores by Sara Simpson and Alice Blackwell. Lopez leads the team with four goals and one assist on the season, while Sara Simpson is also among the team leaders with three goals and two assists for head coach Brian Purcell.

UNC Asheville holds the 12-9-2 all-time series edge over the Lady Bucs, but Charleston Southern has won four of the past six over the Bulldogs as CSU looks to even the series. Asheville won last season’s match, 5-0, in Asheville, N.C.

The Bulldogs also enter the weekend with one Big South Conference win on the season as UNCA defeated VMI on September 27th in Asheville, N.C. by a score of 4-2, as Amanda Knapp, Shenny Lenhart, Kennedy Garrett and Melanie Cusi all found the back of the net against the Keydets. Kaitlyn Eckert leads the Bulldogs offense on the season with seven goals and four assists, while Paige Trent has four goals and two assist for head coach Michelle Demko.
